ANCC board certification renewal and state licensure renewal are separate systems. One course can help with both, but ANCC pharmacology credit does not automatically satisfy every state pharmacology, controlled-substance, or prescriptive-authority rule.
Texas is an important example. Renewing national certification can satisfy the state’s 20-hour general continuing competency route for an APRN, but it does not discharge the additional 5 pharmacotherapeutics hours required of an APRN with prescriptive authority.
